Sunshine Coast Council is offering a range of 12 month full time entry level traineeships across the region.
Applications for traineeships open on 19 January and offer opportunities to work in administration, horticulture, customer contact, information technology and libraries.
Acting Mayor Chris Thompson said entry level traineeships provide successful applicants with a qualification and experience working in a dynamic local government environment.
“A full-time traineeship is for a period of 12 months, during which time trainees gain knowledge, practical skills and qualifications that will help them gain employment either with council or the wider job market,” Cr Thompson said.
“Traineeship placements attract many applicants each year. Information on how to apply is available to ensure that you submit your best application in this competitive job market.”
Traineeship positions are advertised once a year. Traineeships for 2013 will be advertised with council's current vacancies from 19 January and applications close on 4 February 2013.
Council will recruit for these positions in February 2013 with an anticipated start date of 11 March 2013.
Former trainee, Jade Law, who now works in the Regional Strategy and Planning Department, is very appreciative of council’s traineeship program.
“Having a traineeship at Sunshine Coast Council has given me the ultimate foot-in-the-door to gain not only experience, but a qualification in a government job,” she said.
“Considering I have just come straight from school, it has been a real eye-opener to the variety of careers out there.”
All traineeship schemes have eligibility criteria depending on whether they are funded by state and/ or federal funding. The criteria is updated annually and is included in all advertising material.
