Sunshine Coast Council will organise independently mediated discussions to address the concerns of community groups with an interest in Quanda Lakes community land.

The discussions will involve preferred tenderer Oz Ski and are aimed at providing as many groups as possible with access by way of a potential shared usage arrangement and shared cost.

Divisional councillor Vivien Griffin said this process would ensure it met council’s expectations for triple-bottom-line outcomes, and engender goodwill between all parties involved.

“Cooperative community access to the site had always been a requirement of the Expression of Interest,” she said.

“This decision by council reinforces this expectation and makes it clear to the community that the result of any mediation will come back as a report to council and the full council will make a decision based on that.

"The impact of noise on nearby properties is a fundamental issue for me and I am not prepared to support any application involving motorised noise which cannot meet a standard that would not impact on local residents.

“This matter has been identified as a key obligation on the preferred tenderer, who would have legal obligations under any future Material Change of Use approval conditions, so it must also apply equally to any other parties seeking motorised use on the lake,” Cr Griffin said.
