The Coast is enjoying a bumper summer with bookings at the Sunshine Coast Holiday Parks showing a healthy increase on the 2015-16 Christmas-New Year break.

The six council-owned holiday parks were at capacity for the peak middle period of the school holidays – December 16 to January 7 – and bookings are strong for the remainder of the break.

Tourism, Events and Sport Portfolio Cr Jason O’Pray said holiday park occupancy for December was up by 5%.

“The Sunshine Coast is a fantastic holiday destination at any time of the year, and our holiday parks are a great option from which to explore the region,” Cr O’Pray said.

“It’s been great to see so many visitors and locals out and about enjoying the great run of weather we’ve been having over these school holidays.

“Last year was also fantastic weatherwise, and a strong summer for bookings, so to see another increase for the 2016-17 break is very pleasing.

“The solid performance of our region’s holiday parks is a reflection of our particularly strong domestic tourism market which has seen us welcome a near-record 3.25 million visitors for the year to September 2016.

“We experienced a 13.5% growth rate for the region compared to the 4.8% growth rate for Australia and 1.8% increase for Queensland.”

Council operates six beachside holiday parks at Dicky Beach, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Cotton Tree, Mudjimba and Coolum.

Mudjimba recently underwent an expansion which added 46 sites and new facilities which have been very popular over summer.

Bookings can be made in advance online.

The website allows customers to explore the various parks’ locations as well at the range of accommodation options on offer, such as ensuited cabins, caravan sites or camping areas.
