Seasons of the Sun member The Coffee Place has taken out a silver gong in the national CSR Sugar Golden Bean Awards, held in Caloundra last weekend.
The Kunda Park based company, which specialises in coffee beans and ancillary products to the Coast’s hospitality industry, entered just two of its wide range of coffee brands, and its Natural Bean Premium Harvest came second in a strongly contested field.
The Coffee Place is part of the Sunshine Coast Council-initiated Seasons of the Sun alliance, a collection of food and beverage companies whose quality produce aims to position the Coast as a premier destination for the high-quality end of the business.
"We have just established that we won a silver medal at the CSR Sugar Golden Bean awards," managing director Gary Newcome said.
"This is a national event for our industry, so this for us is big news.
"We entered two coffees only: Natural Bean Premium Harvest in the milk-based category and an Australian coffee under the Australian grown category."
Hinterland-based Montville Coffee took out a bronze medal in the Organic Espresso category, with its Woodford Blend.
Economic Development and Entrepreneurship Portfolio Councillor, Lew Brennan, congratulated both organisations.
"The Coast is on a roll now, as far as gaining a quality reputation in the food and beverage business and it’s due to great businesses like The Coffee Place," he said.
"Seasons of the Sun is proving to be a great vehicle for local companies to combine their firepower, at the same time assisting each member to achieve commercial objectives."
