Caloundra is a contender for the title of Queensland Tidiest Town thanks to a strong partnership between the Sunshine Coast Council and the community and a commitment to a clean, green environment.
Caloundra was named Coastal South East Queensland’s Tidiest Town 2008 at the Ergon Energy Tidy Towns Regional Awards yesterday and is now one of nine finalists in the State awards to be announced in September.
Division Two Councillor, Tim Dwyer, who accepted the award on behalf of Council, said the title was a fantastic reward for the efforts of Council and the Caloundra Tidy Towns Action Group.
“The umbrella group was formed last year to bring together a range of community groups already making a huge difference with their commitment to Caloundra’s environment,” Cr Dwyer said.
“But it seems it was the power of one that tipped us over the line and all the volunteers in the Action group, council staff and all involved in this win ought to be congratulated.
“Because it really is everything that contributes to the beauty and sustainability of Caloundra, from Council managed projects to the state of the art resource recovery facility at Beerwah, the volunteer groups which adopt neighbourhood parks or take part in revegetation working bees, the property owners that commit to Land for Wildlife and similar environmental programs and so much more, that are responsible for this win.
“It is great to see how Council and the community can work together to maintain and improve Caloundra to make it an even better place to visit and to live.”
The South East Queensland Regional Awards included the announcement of 12 other achievement awards with Sunshine Coast Region communities taking out half of them including:
