Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer believes Council should do all it can to nurture creative industries, especially film-makers, on the Sunshine Coast so that we keep talented students here, rather than losing them to Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.
“That’s why I was thrilled to provide $15,000 discretionary funding towards this film festival which opens at The Events Centre on September 27,” Cr Dwyer said.
“Entry is by a gold coin donation to benefit the Compass Institute and everyone is welcome to attend the short film screenings from 6pm to see first-hand the creative abilities of Sunshine Coast students.
“Students and teachers will show their film entries in the genres of short narrative, documentary and arts. They’ll have the opportunity to participate in workshops, and Screen Queensland, the government body supporting film-making and TV production, will be offering a Q&A session.
“The festival also includes five film screenings courtesy of Big Screen Cinemas Caloundra from October 2 to 6 and it is hoped the film makers will be there to talk about their work.
“This is only the second year the Caloundra Fringe Film Festival has been presented and the Festival Director Murray Power has informed me we have already doubled the number of entries, so it’s off to a good start.“
Caloundra Fringe Festival is run in conjunction with Caloundra Music Festival – a not for profit family-friendly community event that celebrates the environment, cultural achievements and community pride of the Caloundra area.
