Babies, toddlers and parents are invited to attend a Teddy Bears’ picnic to celebrate the launch of Council’s my first Library card at 10am on Wednesday, July 15 at Kawana Library.
Council’s Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the new toddler library card was for the youngest members of our community.
“ My first Library card has been specially designed for babies and toddlers from age 0 to five and features a childhood classic, the Teddy Bear,” Cr McKay said.
“Babies, toddlers and parents are invited to bring their teddy bears to Kawana Library on July 15 and listen to stories, play games and enjoy a share of the giant bear-sized cake.
“By giving your toddler their own library card, parents are helping their children to access a whole new world of fun, discovery and adventure.
“My first library membership will be your tot’s very first card, complete with their name and details and will enable them to feel like they belong to somewhere very special.
“Research shows being read to at an early age is critical in terms of a child’s social, cognitive, emotional and language development, and their overall wellbeing.
“This card is their early pass into this wonderful world of learning.
“Sunshine Coast Libraries have close to 10,000 picture books to choose from, offering hours of fun.
“ My first Library card is proudly supported by the State Library of Queensland’s The Best Start family literacy initiative program aimed at creating stronger language and literacy environments for Queensland children before they start kindergarten and school.”
