Be scene at events workshop

Sunshine Coast Council’s Events Network ( scene) program, which, feature some of the Coast’s brightest festival and event organisers, is on again next month.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said council is a keen supporter of events and recognises the important role they play in building a sustainable economy and community.

"Through the scene program we aim to build and strengthen the events industry on the Coast," Mayor Jamieson said.

"One of our goals is to help increase job opportunities within the industry and to strengthen and enrich the diversity of events in the region.

"We have secured some big name presenters at the upcoming workshop which has been specifically designed to assist those wanting to learn more about running events and festivals.

"I also look forward to meeting attendees of the scene networking evening held directly after the workshop to highlight the importance of building a strong and successful events industry."

One of the presenters at the next event on 18 July includes local Golden Days Festival organiser, Mark Pico, who will be talk about his experience in developing and running music festivals.

Mr Pico has more than 20 years experience in the music and entertainment industry and is one half of the driving force behind successful events such as The Cooltown Ball, Coolum Heats Up For Winter Festival, Rip Curl Channel V Stomp event, Lighthouse Party Events and the new and exciting festival scheduled for 2013, The Big Pineapple Music Festival.

Mark Pico said he hopes to share some of his passion, knowledge and experience to help others overcome some of the common pitfalls of organising events.

"To us as event organiser’s it’s not just about putting on a great show…it’s about highlighting the amazing talent on the Sunshine Coast as well as the beautiful place we live," Mr Pico said.

A number of the workshop presenters will also attend the networking evening which follows the workshop and provides an opportunity for those in the events industry on the Sunshine Coast to build important business relationships.

The network evenings are free to attend and include finger food, entertainment, lucky door prizes, guest speakers, cash bar, a showcase of local suppliers and performers, new products and technologies.
