Help your kids get in touch with their wildside this spring at one of Sunshine Coast Council’s environment focused school holiday activities at the Maroochy Botanic Gardens and Mary Cairncross Reserve.

Environment Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said there were some wonderful workshops for the Coast’s budding artists and scientists to enjoy.

“There are some great school holiday activities running at Council’s reserves this September to inspire the children’s creative side, while teaching them an environmental responsibility message,” Cr McKay said.

“At the Maroochy Botanic Gardens, children can intertwine themselves with nature and create their own musical instrument using natural materials, make a woven marine turtle with marine debris, go on a bushwalk, learn how to draw wildflowers or be a scientist for the morning.

“Or if you head to the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve to the Natureweavers workshops, you can create your own bushwalking stick, then after lunch take a rainforest tour to identify some of the wildlife and interesting features of the reserve.

“Adults don’t miss out either with ceramic jewellery workshop on September 26 where they can create their own beautiful pendants and brooches.

“Soak up the fresh air at the gardens—why not take a picnic and make a day of it.”

Workshops cost $7.50 per child with some workshops having an additional cost for materials.
