Aldi gets the green light in Nambour
Sunshine Coast Council has approved a development application for an Aldi store to be built in Nambour.
Sunshine Coast Council has approved a development application for an Aldi store to be built in Nambour.
Manager Planning Assessment Michael Bismire said the planning approval is for an Aldi store to be built at 123-131 Howard Street, Nambour.
"The proposed store will open out to Howard Street and present an attractive welcoming entry with landscaped frontage and a wide awning.
"Nambour shoppers will also be pleased to know that the planned parking space for over 90 car parks exceeds council’s minimum requirements for a shop of this size."
Mr Bismire said Aldi had been happy to dedicate part of the site to council at no cost.
"That means council will now be able to extend pedestrian access from Howard St to Quota park - it’s a great outcome for the Nambour community," he said.
Mr Bismire said council undertook an independent economic analysis regarding the need for a mid-range supermarket in Nambour.
"The review highlighted that the need for additional food retailing has been understated in the area and there are strong economic grounds for the introduction of additional competition and choice into the retail food market for local and surrounding hinterland residents," he said.
"ALDI operates differently from a main stream supermarket by offering a core range of products that are constantly reviewed to meet changing tastes and preferences.
"It’s a positive for locals as they will have more options when it comes to choosing where to do the grocery shopping and in the types of products available."
