$100 million retirement community approved for Wurtulla

Sunshine Coast Council today granted approval for a $100 million retirement community and aged persons home to be built on the corner of Nicklin Way and Lake Kawana Boulevard.

The six hectare site will host more than 340 units, with 96 beds in the aged care facility and 250 retirement community units.

Division three Councillor Keryn Jones said that she was pleased to see this significant development move forward.

“A development of this size will provide significant economic benefit to the area,” Cr Jones said.

“This is a great location for a retirement community as it is close to bus routes, the beach, the future Kawana Town Centre, a bowls club, Lake Kawana and the future hospital.

“The design and layout of the site blends into the surrounding residential area, and will include a large communal open space area that will be a focal point for the residents and offer a perfect area for visits from their families and friends.”

A total of nine buildings and 72 independent living units are approved for the site, with the building height at four storeys to the north of the site along Lake Kawana Way, decreasing to one storey to the south.

Access will be via stern Drive, Lake Kawana Boulevard and The Decks.

The decision to approve the application was made at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Wednesday 25 August 2010.
