Requesting data from flood models
Learn more about extracting data from council's flood models.
Council provides two types of searches that relate to extraction of data from council flood models. The online flood information search options on MyCouncil include:
- gridded flood data provision
- flood model data extracts.
These searches are normally requested by consultants or professional engineers seeking information to calibrate a smaller flood model being created for a development, to match the information from council’s larger models.
Both of these searches provide information from various flood models that form the basis of council’s flood mapping.
This information includes:
- design flood surfaces
- flow or stage hydrographs
- design rainfall information.
Gridded flood data provision can generally be provided anywhere council flood mapping indicates data is available.
A flood model extract provides the gridded flood data provision and provides a cut down version taken from the larger council flood model.
There are some limitations on the provision of flood model extracts. These include
- where the data does not exist.
- where a flood model extract is not fit for purpose (can not retain consistency with the model from which it is extracted).
- where the location is within a regional flood storage preservation area.
- where the location suggests that a development interest is unlikely to be able to able to occur and protect the natural landforms and hydraulic characteristics of the floodplain, including floodplain storage.
It is always best to check before submitting a request, whether the request can be serviced. To do this, please contact the strategic flooding and stormwater team on the email below.
After checking whether these searches can be provided, there are two ways of requesting these services from council. The two methods are:
- lodge and pay online through MyCouncil (you will need to register to use this service)
- visit one of our offices and submit flooding search application (DOCX, 205KB) and pay the applicable fee. We are unable to process scanned or edited forms submitted by email.
Note: Search applications will not be accepted without payment. To comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, the use of credit cards is only available online through MyCouncil, or in person. These searches take up to 20 working days to complete.
Cancellations and refunds
You must submit a request for cancellations (and refund) before the search request is processed.
As the application process is automated, if you would like a refund, it is best to contact the strategic flooding and stormwater team directly by email [email protected].
