Nominations for the Sunshine Coast Biosphere Awards 2026 open Monday 2 March and close Monday 4 May.  

Eligibility 

  • Open to individuals, groups, businesses, schools, and organisations residing and operating in the Sunshine Coast Biosphere Reserve (SC Local government area) 
  • Nominees must:  
  • Reside or operate predominantly in the Sunshine Coast Council local government area. 
  • Maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct. 
  • Activities must have occurred within the past 12 months. 
  • Self-nominations are supported 
  • Aligns with UNESCO Biosphere Reserve values and objectives. 
  • Council employees, immediate family of Council staff, Councillors and category sponsors cannot enter that category. 

Nomination Requirements

  • All entries must be completed via the online nomination form provided on the website. Please contact the Biosphere team, if an online submission is not possible.
  • Entries must address the specific assessment criteria for the award category being entered, including a minimum of one referee.  
  • Each award category nomination requires a separate entry.
  • Nominations close 5pm, Monday 4 May 2026. Late entries will not be accepted.

Judging

  • All category finalists and winners will be selected by an independent panel representing community and industry perspectives.
  • Judges score each nomination confidentially against published criteria.
  • Conflicts of interest must be declared; affected judges will abstain.
  • Panel decisions are final; no correspondence will be entered into.
  • In the case of a tie, the panel may decide to award joint winners.
  • In the event of no eligible entries, Council may revoke or reassign the award.
  • Entries will be considered ineligible if the work/ service is illegal or could harm the reputation of the Sunshine Coast Biosphere, Sunshine Coast Council or the awards. 

Awards Ceremony

  • Finalists will be announced on Friday 12 June 2026.
  • Winners will be announced at the Sunshine Coast Biosphere Awards Ceremony Friday 26 June 2026.
  • All details of the award winners remain embargoed until this date.
  • Winners for each category receive a certificate and trophy. Finalists receive a certificate. These cannot be exchanged for cash or any other services. 
  • Finalists and winners for each category may be published in the media as part of promotions of the Awards. Entrant contact details may be provided to the media when requested. 
  • Finalists and winners are expected to promote the Sunshine Coast Biosphere via community pride, connection and engagement throughout the year.
  • Council may revoke any finalist or award winners if Council reasonably believes that the person or organisation has engaged in conduct that may bring the Awards, the Sunshine Coast Biosphere, Council or any associated partners into disrepute.

General Conditions

  • The promoter is Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Locked Bag 72, Sunshine Coast Mail Centre, QLD, 4560.
  • Council reserves the right to accept, reject, or cancel nominations at any time.
  • Council is not responsible for lost, late or misdirected nominations.
  • All nominations become Council property and may be used for promotional purposes and not returned to entrants.
  • Council may vary the terms and conditions of this awards program at any time at its absolute discretion. 
  • If any circumstance arises that prevents or significantly impacts Council’s ability to conduct the awards program or to present the award to the finalists and winners, Council reserves the right to cancel the program and, at its discretion, either reschedule it under the same terms or select an alternative award recipient.

Council will use any personal information provided on this form for the purposes of the Sunshine Coast Biosphere Awards program and for remaining in contact with you. Council is authorised to collect this information in accordance with the Local Government Act 2009 and other local government Acts. Your personal information will be used when determining, announcing and promoting the awards program. Your information will not be given to any other person or agency, unless you have given us permission to do so, or we are required by law. Your personal information is dealt with in accordance with Council's Privacy Policy, available on Council's website.
