Works will begin soon on the upgrade of the pedestrian crossing at Beerburrum Street, Aroona which will provide a safe crossing to Ridgehaven Park.

Works will begin soon on the upgrade of the pedestrian crossing at Beerburrum Street, Aroona which will provide a safe crossing to Ridgehaven Park.

The upgraded pedestrian crossing will include traffic/pedestrian lights and more road lighting.

Work is scheduled to start late May 2023. Residents adjacent to the works will be updated closer to commencement.

Construction is expected to be completed within three months, weather and site conditions permitting.

Sunshine Coast Council will be improving connectivity with a new footpath along the worn track at Caralan Way Park, Beerwah.

No trees will be removed or impacted for this new footpath.

Bli Bli, Camp Flat Road - Stage 4 road upgrade

Sunshine Coast Council is committed to the ongoing improvement of local road networks within the region. Council has received partial funding from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) to continue the upgrade along Camp Flat Road, Bli Bli.

Stage 4 will resume from the previous section of Camp Flat Road completed in 2021 and will also include the Whitecross Road intersection.

An experienced fauna spotter-catcher will be in attendance to manage and supervise all terrestrial fauna management activities prior to and during tree removal works.

Early works will include the construction of a retaining wall on Camp Flat and Whitecross roads intersection, as well Energex and NBN relocations.

More details will be provided to the community prior to these early works commencing.

The main construction is expected to commence between late 2023 and early 2024. Further information will be provided prior to this main construction phase.

Bokarina, Kawana Aquatic Centre - Upgrade

Bokarina

Major upgrades are underway for Kawana Aquatic Centre and the facility remains fully operational during this time.

The first of three construction stages (Stage 1A and 1B) involve a new 20-metre indoor pool, along with improved structures, plant, operating equipment, and demolition of the existing indoor pool.

Timing for Stage 2 and Stage 3 is still to be determined.

Future works include a new entry building, children’s water play areas, public amenities, a refurbished kiosk, and improved car parking.

Construction is expected to be completed by November 2023, weather and site conditions permitting.

Buderim, Jingellic Drive - New pathway

Buderim

Council is committed to increasing and maintaining pathway networks across our region. Construction will begin soon on a new footpath along the western and northern side of Jingellic Drive, Buderim.

The path will extend 180m from the roundabout on Karawatha Street to 17 Jingellic Drive. 

To allow for a smooth and accessible connection, the path will be widened to two metres. The works have been carefully reviewed to minimise vegetation clearing, however it is necessary to remove five trees. As part of the council’s commitment to sustainability, 10 trees will be planted as offset along the new pathway.

This project is scheduled to start on Monday 4 September 2023 and will be finished within 3 weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.

Caloundra, Caloundra Esplanade - Footpath renewal

Sunshine Coast Council is committed to increasing and maintaining pathway networks across our region.

Construction will begin soon on renewing and widening the existing footpath to 1.8 metres wide along the Northern side of Caloundra Esplanade from Minchinton Street to Knox Avenue, Caloundra.

A total length of 197 metres of path will be renewed. Ramps to the road will also be renewed.

Caloundra, Tripcony Lane - Maloja Pontoon Renewal

The pontoon at Tripcony Lane is well-used and enjoyed by all. However, it has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced. To develop the final design, Sunshine Coast Council rigorously investigated what type of structure would best suit the changing conditions in the Pumicestone Passage.

To develop the final design, Sunshine Coast Council rigorously investigated what type of structure would best suit the changing conditions in the Pumicestone Passage. 

We asked the community what type of structure would best suit their needs via an online survey, conducted a detailed site investigation and a review of what would offer best value for the investment. 

From these investigations, Council determined that a pontoon would best meet the needs of the users, with some improvements over the existing structure.

Coolum Sports Complex - Intersection Upgrade

Sunshine Coast Council is pleased to announce the upgrade to the entrance of the Coolum Sports Complex.

The works will see additional capacity for vehicles exiting the complex and the addition of a slip lane for vehicles exiting northbound. Lighting at the intersection will also be upgraded with additional light poles added for improved visibility at night.

Works also include necessary realignment of utilities to allow construction to start.

Cotton Tree, Fourth Avenue - Stormwater Upgrades

Sunshine Coast Council is committed to improving stormwater infrastructure across our region. As part of this year’s Stormwater Renewal Program, council is undertaking construction of multiple new stormwater chambers and associated infrastructure to improve this network.

The chambers are of significant size, and the methodology chosen is to utilize precast concrete to reduce the impact to the pavement, as well as limit road closure times. 

Dewatering and water treatment processes will be in operation, and fenced exclusion zones will be in place for public safety.

Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve - Walking Trail Install

Sunshine Coast Council will soon be undertaking the construction of a walking trail as part of the Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve Landscape Plan.

Stage 1 works include the renewal and installation of a gravel trail, pedestrian pathway and boardwalk, totalling approximately 590 metres.

Works are scheduled to start late August and be completed by October 2023, weather and site conditions permitting.

Dicky Beach, Coochin Street - New Footpath

Dicky Beach

Sunshine Coast Council will be constructing a new footpath along the North side of Coochin Street, Dicky Beach.

The new path will connect the existing footpath on Cooroy Street with the coastal pathway at Dicky Beach Surf Club.

The design has been carefully reviewed to minimise vegetation clearing wherever possible, however approximately six trees will be removed to facilitate the new pathway.

To offset the removal, new trees/landscaping will be planted along the new pathway following the completion of the works.

Eudlo Stage 2, Perrins Road-Gravel Road Upgrade

Work will soon commence on the unsealed section of Perrins Rd approximately 1km from the intersection of Logwoods Rd. Works will include widening, sealing and the construction of retaining structures.

Unfortunately, some trees will need to be removed to construct the roadworks and maintain safe sight lines. A fauna spotter-catcher will be on-site to monitor clearing. All tree clearing will be offset by planting at one of Council’s environmental reserves at a ratio of 4:1.

Works are currently scheduled to start Monday, 28 August 2023 and be completed by Friday, 24 November. Weather and site conditions permitting.

Little Mountain, Winchester Road-New footpath and kerb ramps

Sunshine Coast Council is committed to increasing and maintaining pathway networks across our region. Construction will begin on a new footpath along the western side of Winchester Road, Little Mountain.

The new 1.8m-wide path will connect the existing footpath from Winchester Road to Woodroffe Street. Kerb ramps are also being installed across Winchester Road to allow for easier crossing and future connectivity.

Works are expected to commence Monday 2 October 2023 and be finished within a week, weather and site conditions permitting.

As part of these ongoing improvements, a new public amenity block will be constructed at Glenfields Neighborhood Park, Mountain Creek. The new public amenity block will consist of one disability and one unisex toilet to service its patrons and wider community.

A disability compliant car space and interconnecting pathways will also be constructed on Glenfields Boulevard.

The works have been carefully reviewed to minimise vegetation clearing, however it is necessary to remove one tree. As part of council’s commitment to sustainability, several trees will be planted as offset in the surrounding area of Glenfields Neighbourhood Park.

Yandina, North Arm Yandina Creek Road Stage 3

Sunshine Coast Council maintains more than 2200 kilometres of roads across our region through its road reseal and rehabilitation program to ensure they are safe for all road users.

As part of this program, we will start the North Arm Yandina Creek Road Stage 3 gravel road upgrade in September 2023.

The overall project will deliver an upgraded and sealed roadway between the currently sealed section of North Arm Yandina Creek Road and the intersection of North Arm Yandina Creek Rd and Toolborough Road

This project will improve road safety, reduce future maintenance requirements, improve dust suppression for the community who travel along or live close to North Arm Yandina Creek Road.

It will also improve visibility and safety for all road users and make it safer for residents entering and exiting their properties.

Yarooma, Yarooma Park - Playground Renewal

Yaroomba

Sunshine Coast Council will soon be renewing the playground at Yaroomba Park in Yaroomba. The renewal works include demolishing and removing the existing seesaw, two rockers and timber edging, and installing new boulders and softfall mulch. The existing swing will remain.
