Khancoban Drive Park - remediation works update
Buderim
Sunshine Coast Council is continuing important remediation works at Khancoban Drive Park to ensure the area remains safe and enjoyable for our community. We started this work on 27 October 2025 to address a sinkhole initially believed to be caused by poor soil compaction during land development in the 1980s.
| Start Date | |
| Duration | TBA |
During early excavation works, a previously undetected void was discovered. This area had not appeared in earlier Ground Penetrating Radar studies conducted in May 2025. Rectification works were put on hold to allow for further investigation.
We subsequently engaged a local Geotechnical Engineering Consultant to undertake further investigations on both sides of the park. These investigations and the associated engineering assessment identified potential underground voids in both areas.
The Geotechnical Engineering Consultant has since provided Council with a targeted remediation strategy to address both voids.
We have awarded the construction contract and remediation works are scheduled to begin in late March 2026.
