A group of young people will converge on the Sunshine Beach Sk8 Park on Saturday 28 March to carve up the stage and the skate park – and you are invited.
CONVERGE, organised by the Sunshine Coast Council , will feature skating competitions, live bands, creative workshops and the opportunity to cool off at the Aquatic Centre adjacent to the skate park.
Local youth bands will belt out live music from noon to 4pm, showcasing the Coast’s latest emerging talent.
The free event, for 12 to 25 year olds and their families, is the council’s main event for National Youth Week – a week of celebrations for young people by young people.
Skaters are urged to register before 11am on the day to be part of the competition heats for Best Vert, Best Street, Best Girls, Best Boys and Best Under 12s. Sign up for your chance of glory and to showcase your skating skills.
Artists will be on hand to help produce stencil art, a barbecue will be fired up and the aquatic centre (next door) will be open throughout the afternoon.
CONVERGE is drug and alcohol free event.
National Youth Week runs from 28 March to 5 April and the 2009 theme is ‘Make a Move’. Visit www.youthweek.com for more information.
