Where beach, park and town connect
Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a refreshed public space in one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular spots, with a new streetscape upgrade on a section of Park Street now complete and open to the community.
Coolum Connections new streetscape furniture
The Coolum Connections project strengthens the link between the foreshore, main street and Jack Morgan Park, helping bring people together at the heart of town.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 9 Councillor Maria Suarez said the project was shaped by strong community input and celebrates what locals love most about Coolum.
“Coolum Connections is all about making it easier for people to move through town and enjoy our beautiful green spaces,” Cr Suarez said.
“Thanks to community feedback, the finished design reflects Coolum’s local character, with native plants and trees and a local flora and fauna interpretation element features in the pavement.
“This street now does more than get you from A to B; it invites you to linger, look around and enjoy the moment, just as a great street in the centre of town should."
Shaped by community voices
Earlier community consultation helped guide the final outcome, with 113 survey responses and two community meetings contributing to the design.
Most participants supported themes inspired by local flora and fauna, which went on to shape the look and feel of the completed project.
“Whether you’re passing through or staying awhile, the refreshed connection invites you to pause, wander and enjoy the journey,” Cr Suarez said.
“It’s wonderful to see locals already using and enjoying this renewed space.”
What’s new on Park Street
The section of Park Street between David Low Way and the Civic Centre was identified as a priority connection and has now been refreshed with new patterned pavement celebrating Coolum’s flora and fauna, landscaped areas featuring native coastal plants, comfortable seating areas to rest and relax, improved street trees with irrigation, and renewed lighting, including festoon lights for a warm, welcoming feel at night.
A stronger civic heart
“Next time you’re heading to the beach, relaxing in the park or visiting the library, take the scenic route and enjoy the little details along the way,” Cr Suarez said.
“The refreshed heart of Coolum is ready and waiting!”
