Time is running out for residents to share their views with council to help shape the future social direction for our region and go in the draw to win some amazing prizes.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said sharing your views would help guide and build an even stronger community towards 2041.
“In 2015, council adopted its first Social Strategy which recognised our greatest social attribute is our people and the way they participate and get involved in community life,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“It also set a vision that our community will continue to thrive and enjoy a lifestyle that sets us apart and in all of our communities, people are included, treated with respect and opportunities are available to all.
“By working together we will ensure we build and support an even stronger Sunshine Coast community, living in Australia’s most sustainable region – healthy, smart, creative.”
Community Portfolio Cr Jenny McKay said the new Social Strategy would build on the successes of the past three years that came from the inaugural strategy.
“The strength of our community affects all aspects of our life from health and wellbeing to connections with our local economy and environment,” Cr McKay said.
“Our new Social Strategy is sure to touch all of us in some way and we’re keen to hear what the community thinks is important to them.
“What does a strong community entail?
“So far some of the feedback we have received includes photos and responses such as a strong community makes everyone feel welcome, one that creates places and events that celebrate diversity and foster possibility, one that embraces our First Nation people and where people can freely express themselves.”
“Sharing your views also puts you in the draw to win one of three great prizes.”
The prizes are: a recreation mountain bike; tickets to the Sunshine Coast Stadium Under the Southern Stars concert headlined by the Hoodoo Gurus; or a painting by Lyndon Davis, local traditional owner (Kabi Kabi).
