Sunshine Coast Council Mayor, Bob Abbot has invited those who love the great outdoors to be among the first to bike, walk or ride their horse along the new Cooroora Trail when it opens to the public on Sunday 30 November.

The Mayor, speaking at the official opening today said the trail was the missing link between the towns of Pomona and Cooran, extending the Noosa Trail Network to 95km of maintained trails throughout the Noosa hinterland.

“Locals, residents and visitors can now walk or ride all the way from Pomona through to Cooran, Lake Macdonald and Kin Kin,” Cr Abbot said.

“Take in the beautiful views of Mt Cooran and Mt Cooroora and read about the history of the area as you make your way along the trail”.

The Trail is suitable for walkers, mountain bike riders and horse riders who are all invited to enjoy the Cooroora Trail for the first time on Sunday 30 November.

The 10km Trail extends from the Noosa Showgrounds located at Pomona, through Cooroora Creek Park and Tuchekoi Forest Reserve around the base of Mt Cooroora and into William Martin Park where a picnic shelter overlooking a beautiful dam makes an inviting place to stop and relax.

The Trail then skirts private property at the base of Mt Cooran before arriving at the Cooran Rec Club.

The Queensland Government provided $20,000 to develop the Cooroora Trail to get more Queenslanders active through sport and recreation.

The Cooroora Trail Opening starts with a free breakfast from 7.00am at the Noosa Showgrounds, Exhibition Street, Pomona.

Trailblazers will leave in stages, mountain bikers at 8.15am, horse riders at 8.30am and those walking at approximately 8.35am.

Refreshments can be purchased from the Cooran Rec Club at the end of the Trail and a free shuttle bus will run between 9.30am and 1.30pm returning you to your car and/or float at the Noosa Showgrounds, Pomona.

The mountain bike ride will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, horse riders approximately 2 hours and walkers should allow approximately 3 hours.

Horse riders should note in the urban areas of Pomona and Cooran small sections of the trail follow the roads and cross the railway line and therefore it is required that rider and horses are experienced.

Free mountain bikes from Noosa Bike Hire can be used for the morning but numbers are limited so bookings are essential. Phone 5474 3322 to book.
