Treasure in Beerwah

There are treasures to be found every Saturday at Sunshine Coast Council’s Beerwah recycling market.

Recycling markets sell second hand goods from council’s resource recovery centres and provide a great way to recycle unwanted items.

Division 1 Councillor, Anna Grosskreutz said it is amazing what you can find.

"A lot of the time people just get tired of things and decide to de-clutter. That means there are some great finds at bargain prices from furniture and sporting equipment to baby items, electrical goods and building materials," Cr Grosskreutz said.

"Just wandering around the gardens and market area is inspiring, it has made me realise the added value of recycled goods.

"I’ve picked up so many bargains at the facility, it’s surprising what people throw out—everything has a value, even if you don’t think it’s worth anything, someone else might think they have found gold.

"Anything that is in a re-saleable condition is removed on entry to the facility and sold in the shop, and the great thing about that is the goods you pass on won’t cost you a penny to dispose of."

"Council’s recycle markets are run by local charities and not-for-profit groups, providing great local opportunities, jobs and a revenue stream. The Beerwah market is run by Community Recycling who also manage the Witta and Mapleton facility.

"The facility provides a number of community services like the inclusion of a workshop for the local men’s shed group and supports volunteers, people from correctional services and work for the dole participants.

"It really is a wonderful facility and is an important resource for the residents of the Glass House Country region who want sustainable options when they clean out the family garage."

Beerwah Resource Recovery facility is open seven days a week from 8am to 5pm. The recycling market is open 9am to 4pm every Saturday.

All council’s resource recovery facilities provide a way to ensure recyclable items don’t end up in landfill.
