The Today Showreturns to the Sunshine Coast this weekend, with Steve Jacobs presenting live weather crosses from Cotton Tree on Saturday and Caloundra on Sunday.

The weather crew is being brought to the Sunshine Coast by and Sunshine Coast Council and Visit Sunshine Coast to support the Sunshine Coast Lightning's first home game in the Suncorp Super Netball League on Sunday afternoon.

Following their thrilling draw with Queensland Firebirds in the opening round, Lightning is hoping to go one step further and secure their first competition win against Melbourne Vixens at the USC Sports Stadium.

The Lightning squad will be at the beach at Cotton Tree from 6am on Saturday to join Steve Jacobs and the Today crew.

Lightning stars Geva Mentor, Laura Langman and Caitlin Bassett, who have more than 300 international Test caps between them will take part in drills and share tips with local netballers while showing off the spectacular location to a national audience.

Netballers and fans from around the Sunshine Coast are invited to come down and say hello.

This will be the first time Stevie Jacobs has returned to the Sunshine Coast to host Today’s weather since retiring from the weekday show after 12 years of presenting weather on the national breakfast show. He now lives in Vanuatu with his family, but returns regularly to Australia to present Weekend Today’s weather.

He will be hoping that while Lightning might strike in the netball, that otherwise the forecast of predicted sunny weather for the weekend will attract big crowds to both Cotton Tree on Saturday and at the Caloundra Street Fair on Sunday, where Weekend Today’s weather will be presented from 6am.

The Caloundra Street Fair is opening early to provide plenty of activity, fresh produce and colourful characters for Stevie to capture over breakfast.

Visit Sunshine Coast CEO, Simon Latchford said it was fantastic to have the Today Show putting a national spotlight on both Lightning and the region’s famed markets.
