Whether it is for yoga, dancing or group fitness, women and girls are invited to take the first step to feeling amazing and attend one of council’s free Healthy Sunshine Coast Get Out Get Active classes starting in November 2017.

Since the launch of council’s Healthy Sunshine Coast program in 2016, thousands of people across the Coast have enjoyed the benefits of improved health and wellbeing and now, with a variety of exciting new classes, women and girls wanting to be more active can feel the benefits too.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the award-winning Healthy Sunshine Coast program had been boosted by State Government Get Out, Get Active funding.

“I am delighted to launch a new Get Out Get Active program designed to motivate, inspire and support women and girls wanting to be more active so they feel the health and social benefits of taking part in physical exercise,” Cr McKay said.

“Research showed women and girls are less likely to participate in physical activity so we asked the community for their suggestions on what would inspire them to take the first step to being active.

“This feedback allowed us to to understand the barriers, motivations and triggers women and girls face in daily life and I believe we have successfully designed a welcoming and energising program.

“Importantly, the activities are about having fun in a safe and inclusive environment and participants don’t need to be fit as a fiddle or have a wardrobe of active wear to join a class.

“With activities such as dancing, community yoga and gentle group fitness classes, if you haven’t exercised in a while or ever, there will be an activity for you.

“I encourage all residents to check out our full range of Healthy Sunshine Coast programs designed to get the whole community healthy and active.”
