Finding a local art gallery just became easier thanks to the launch of the Sunshine Coast Art Gallery Trail website today (March 23) at one of the trail locations, Caloundra Regional Gallery.

The trail includes more than 40 public galleries, private (commercial) galleries, artisan galleries, artists’ studios, exhibitions and events.

Creator of the Art Gallery Trail website and owner of the Art on Cairncross gallery Tony Gill said the Sunshine Coast region was well known as a destination for visual arts.

“The Sunshine Coast is home to a large number of incredible galleries and studios, but until now there hasn’t been a single website and trail map for visitors and residents to find this information,” Mr Gill said.

“Thanks to support from the art galleries, both public and private, Sunshine Coast Council and the various tourism bodies in the region, we have been able to bring it all together.

“The Sunshine Coast is home to many talented artists so if you are looking to purchase art, the trail website includes a range of private galleries and studios that cater to a range of tastes and budgets.

“There are also many public galleries to explore which allow viewing of fine art from the region and beyond.”

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the website was a great way for visitors and locals looking for an arts experience to plan a trip around our region and see the current exhibitions on offer.

“More often than not, art lovers are looking to visit more than one gallery or studio so it’s fantastic that Tony, and our arts community, have come together and worked hard to create this outstanding resource,” Cr Baberowski said.

State Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle congratulated all involved in achieving the milestone.

“Art, of all its kind, is for everyone and I urge residents to explore the wonders of our local artists,” Mr McArdle said.

To promote the trail, an accompanying trail map brochure is available at visitor information centres, accommodation outlets and galleries.

Geographically the trail covers the hinterland to the coast from Caboolture to Gympie.
