Tewantin foreshore facelift finished

The revitalised Tewantin foreshore precinct is now complete, open and ready for school holiday fun.

The major revamp included replacing the existing wading pool with a contemporary water spray park (the same width and length of the wading pool), a new toilet block with environmentally friendly features and significant works to the car park.

Division 12 Councillor Lew Brennan said the major makeover to the dated facilities would breathe new life into the much-loved precinct.

"The major works to the family-friendly Tewantin foreshore were long overdue," he said.

"With the full works completed over the weekend in time for the September school holidays, it will be great to see the new colourful spray park in action with the youngsters."

Cr Brennan said the old wading pool was unsupervised, in poor condition structurally and in need of replacement.

"While I recognise the sentimental attachment felt by many locals towards the old wading pool, it came to a point where increasing concerns about the risk of toddlers using the unsupervised facility required a new approach be taken," he said.

"The new zero-depth water spray park facility will provide a much safer, family-friendly recreational area.

"New picnic tables and benches have also been installed nearby allowing parents to kick back and relax while keeping a safe eye on their kids’ activities."

Cr Brennan said both the spray park and the toilet block featured environmentally friendly water efficient fixtures and fittings.

"The spray park tanks are replenished by rainwater, with the park only operating when activated by users. Overall this amounts to lower water consumption," he said.

"The new contemporary toilet block building will capture rainwater for re-use, which contributes to greater levels of sustainability and minimises maintenance requirements.

"Replacing the old toilet block that was structurally in poor condition, the new building has also been raised to reduce the incidence of flooding that previously occurred and designed to make better use of natural lighting and ventilation."

Cr Brennan said the works to improve the look, feel and functionality of the car park has been extensive.

"The car park works ranged from resurfacing the existing pavement sections to increasing green areas and providing new pathways for pedestrians and cyclists," he said.

"Ground beautification and drainage works have also been undertaken to help this popular area to function correctly.

"This has included reconfiguring areas next to Harbour Town and the boat ramp beach for better access and safety, and an upgrade of the existing stormwater system."
