Terraces take showgrounds to new level

There’s a terrific new look to the Nambour Showgrounds.

Terracing and landscaping works have just been completed nearby the main entrance, transforming a previously dead space into an amphitheatre-style terraced multi-purpose outdoor area.

Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said the $235,000 works were the second stage of the Nambour Showgrounds Masterplan.

“The great thing about these works is that council worked very closely with the showgrounds’ major event holders to make sure what we did not only improved the look of this area but also served a functional purpose for their needs,” he said.

“Representatives from the Queensland Garden Expo, the Sunshine Coast Agriculture Show Society and the Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club all had a big say in the design of the terraces that can now be used to place more stalls and displays during events.”

Queensland Garden Expo Event Manager Marion Beazley said the works would be a major plus for the annual event.

“This area was previously a grassy slope that couldn’t really be used for anything practical and didn’t look too appealing so to see it transformed like this is just fantastic,” she said.

“It has certainly made a real difference to the appearance of the showgrounds and from an event point of view it will provide additional space for our exhibitions.

"It’s great to see council acknowledging the value of the Nambour Showgrounds to the entire Sunshine Coast region and investing in works that will make this terrific venue even better.”

Stage one of the Nambour Showgrounds Masterplan was completed earlier this year and involved the construction of a retaining wall and re-turfing works at the south eastern end of the showgrounds to improve drainage. Similar works were also carried out near the tennis courts.
