Caloundra Music Festival turns 10 this October long weekend. And boy has it grown!  Here’s 10 fun facts from the past 10 years of Sun, Surf and Soul.

  1. 5500 local music lovers rocked up to the inaugural CMF in 2007. This year we’re expecting an estimated 36,000 keen punters who will come from all over Australia and overseas. In total almost 180,000 music lovers have enjoyed nine awesome festivals.
  2. In 2007 - 22 (mostly iconic Aussie) bands performed on two stages. This year, 80 amazing bands will join the party and rock out on five stages. 460 bands in total have gigged at CMF.
  3. 54 artists or bands have enjoyed CMF so much that they came back to perform at two or more festivals.
  4. Daryl Braithwaite, Blue King Brown, Lisa Hunt and Melbourne Ska Orchestra must really love us – they have all graced the stage at four festivals. Daryl Braithwaite headlined at the inaugural festival and will join us again for the 10th birthday party.
  5. 2010 rated as one of the most memorable years. The festival sold out in one day, we snared Powderfinger on their farewell tour and they went on to perform in near cyclonic conditions. By the end we had to shut the festival down and move the remaining acts to the pub across the road. The luckier punters who chose to stay got to see Paul Kelly in a more intimate pub venue.
  6. CMF has featured some of Australia's biggest and best acts over the past 10 years. Powderfinger, John Butler Trio, Wolfmother, Empire of the Sun, Xavier Rudd, Boy and Bear, Angus and Julia Stone, The Cat Empire, The Living End, Eskimo Joe, Missy Higgins, Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes and many more have all enjoyed some Sunshine Coast love.
  7. We love New Orleans! Over the past 10 years CMF has developed a relationship with the city of New Orleans and has featured many of her most famous musicians including Alan Toussaint, Jon Cleary, Dumpstphunk, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Trombone Shorty, Royal Southern Brotherhood, George Porter and Galactic just to name a few.
  8. In 2007, we planned the festival with a group of volunteers in a lounge room. Our volunteer team has grown from a tiny group of 50 in 2007 to more than 550 in 2016. And now we need to book a theatre for vollie briefings.
  9. CMF is a BYO H20 bottle festival and was the first festival in Australia to be free from disposable plastic water bottles.
  10. Over the past 10 years many community organisations have raised much needed funds on the back of Caloundra Music Festival. In 2016, we will continue to support our local and greater community by providing opportunity, support and prizes.
