Take a sneak peek into sustainable Coast homes

Sunshine Coast residents and visitors seeking green inspiration can step inside sustainable homes and gardens across the region on 8 September, as part of Sustainable House Day.

The free bus tour will stop at five stunning properties, where architects, builders or owners will share information about the sustainable projects and initiatives featured on-site.

For those who prefer to travel under their own steam, selected homes and community gardens in Yandina, Eumundi and Noosa are open for public viewing between 10am – 4pm.

Environment Portfolio Councillor Tony Wellington said the event was a terrific opportunity for residents to pick up tips about reducing their impact on our environment.

“Sustainable House Day is a nationwide event which gives people the chance to look at houses designed, built or fitted out with sustainability in mind,” Cr Wellington said.

“People can talk to the home owners, architects and builders for advice on projects large and small.

“Sustainable living means ensuring that our needs today are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The homeowners with their abodes on show as part of Sustainable House Day have taken that message to heart.

“Whether you own or rent, there’s a range of projects that can help make your home more sustainable.”

The open homes include the Cameron family’s earthen cottage in Eumundi, where the owners will include a showcase of the Rockcote products used in construction and demonstrate the natural clay pizza oven.

Councillor Wellington said council’s Sustainable House Day bus tour is an easy way to visit the houses on show and meet other people interested in sustainable living.

“The tour will include visits to the homes of this year’s Glossies Award winners in the Sustainable Building and Design and Affordable Living categories,” he said.

The Yandina Community Gardens will also be open to showcase a range of sustainable gardening ideas and hold a free Design for Climate workshop with local building and design advice.
