The Sunshine Coast will give a rocking farewell to Queensland’s own Powderfinger when the 4th annual Caloundra Music festival kicks off tomorrow.
Powderfinger, who are on the final leg of their farewell tour, are being joined by 65 other acts at the family friendly event which will be attended by 40,000 people over the weekend.
Powderfinger join with Jet as featured artists on the Stockland stage to kick off tomorrow night’s sold out sessions.
Top performers over the weekend include Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes, Tim Finn, Jon Stevens, Pink Martini, Jon Cleary, Lior, Dan Sultan, The Audreys, Lil Band O Gold, Katie Noonan and our own "Mayor of the Blues", Bob Abbot and the Green machine.
The music festival is an enormous drawcard to the Coast with over half of the ticket sales having gone to patrons from outside the region. They have placed steady demands on Coast accommodation between Caloundra and Mooloolaba.
Millions of dollars are flowing into the Coast economy with locals and visitors splurging on tickets, food and accommodation for the not for profit festival at beautiful Kings Beach.
Families can take part in a wide range of free activities lined up for the Stockland Village, which are being presented by Festuri. The many multicultural events and activities planned over the weekend celebrate our lifestyle and environment.
The festival is doing its bit to reduce carbon emissions with event partner Barung Landcare planting 2500 trees to help offset the festival’s carbon footprint.
Activities include a beachside carnival, markets and food stalls, workshops and interactive sessions and wandering buskers, and street performers. The Village provides a great avenue for local schools, community ensembles and emerging artists to perform in front of the large crowds
Community Groups and charitable organisations will raise much needed funds and awareness of their various causes.
Music lovers are being advised to take public transport to the event with extra buses being provided by the festival and free shuttle buses operating around Caloundra
There are still some tickets available for Saturday and Sunday with plenty of free activities on both these days for non ticket holders.
