Sunshine Cove rising to meet demand

A whole new master-planned community is rising out of the earth at the edge of Maroochydore’s principal activity centre.

Sunshine Cove, a 106-hectare residential and commercial precinct built around Maroochy Boulevard, marks a major new entry to the Coast’s "capital".

Developer Chardan Group has completed its first stage with new residents already moving in while local builders are busy meeting big demand in Stage 2.

Division 8 Councillor Debbie Blumel said it was exciting to see such activity on the Boulevard.

"This precinct offers a new and unique style of inner-city living and has the construction industry racing to meet residential and commercial demand," she said.

"It underlines the confidence being shown in Maroochydore’s future and helps to create jobs in the region."

"Sunshine Coast Council planners played a significant role in the residential design layout, actually improving the yield for Chardan through use of 3D technology. The technology is now a fixture in council’s planning armoury," Cr Blumel said.

"Council reconfigured part of the layout to maximise the use of light and space for amenity and liveability."

Chardan’s sales and marketing spokeswoman, Penny Service, said the company had studied similar urban designs elsewhere and had avoided their mistakes.

"This is building for our times; the inclusion of a large lake gives the feel of open space," she said.

"We created wider streets as part of a joint approach with council, with lots of pocket parks, walks around the lake and a community park, all in close proximity to the Maroochydore centre.

"Even though the land space is relatively small, there is a better feeling of openness. It has larger houses on smaller blocks – and it’s really popular."
