Sunshine Coast Airport today welcomed the establishment of a new Tiger Airways Sunshine Coast – Sydney route commencing daily from 27 March 2011.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot said this is a welcomed initiative by Tiger Airways and confirms their ongoing commitment to the Sunshine Coast.
"This announcement is a fantastic shot in the arm for our tourism industry after what has been a tumultuous start to the year for the Sunshine Coast," Cr Abbot said.
"Whilst we dodged the damage of some of our neighbouring regions our Tourism industry has been hit hard and this new service will go some way to restoring confidence back into the industry.
"The new service would also benefit our business community with a more business friendly departure time from the Sunshine Coast of 8.50am and arrival into Sydney at 10.25am."
Tiger Airways’ Australian Managing Director Crawford Rix said the addition of the Sydney – Sunshine Coast route is "just the ticket for tourism on the Sunshine Coast".
"The Sunshine Coast is already one of Tigers favourite destinations through our highly successful daily service from Melbourne which has now been operating for over three years," Mr Rix said.
"This new route provides a great opportunity for Sydney-siders to access a Sunshine Coast getaway at great prices and of course new opportunities for locals to travel to Sydney for less than ever before with Tiger’s famous low fares."
Sunshine Coast Destination Limited Chief Executive Officer Michael Denton said the introduction of this new service sends a strong message of support to our tourism industry.
"The new service confirms that the Sunshine Coast Region is still one of Australia’s top tourism destinations and the new Tiger Sydney to Sunshine Coast route will provide over 130,000 additional seats annually," Michael Denton said.
To celebrate this new service Tiger will release sale fares today from as low as $38.95* one way for travel commencing from 27 March 2011. (* conditions apply)
