Sunshine Coast is ready for Youi

Youi’s new global headquarters at Sippy Downs is set to create hundreds of job opportunities and the Sunshine Coast will have plenty of suitable applicants.

More than 900 staff will continue to call the region “home” and Youi’s staff numbers will grow as the company expands its operations.

TAFE Queensland East Coast General Manager Paul Wilson said the number of Vocational Education Training qualifications held by Queensland employees was expected to increase by 327,000 over the next five years to 1.76 million, making the state’s workforce one of the most skilled in the country and an ideal place for Youi Insurance to establish its global headquarters.

“We welcome Youi Insurance’s presence on the coast as a major employer and the opportunity to support its staff and management through quality training,” Mr Wilson said.

“We tailor training programs to suit the objectives and needs of large employers like Youi and offer innovative training programs from the workplace, online options and flexible delivery.”

Mr Wilson said TAFE Queensland East Coast worked closely with supermarket success story Gourmet Garden over a four-year period to provide staff training that greatly improved efficiencies and saved production costs.

“Working with more than 150 employers, organisations and community groups, spanning a range of industries, we have been highly successful in tailoring training to meet the objectives of our clients,” he said.

Sunshine Coast University Pro Vice-Chancellor and Professor Property and Development Michael Hefferan said Youi’s presence in Sippy Downs would provide mutually beneficial opportunities.

“This will open up a wide range of employment possibilities for students, from entry level jobs right through to careers, particularly for students in SCU’s Business School that covers a range of areas including management, accounting and human resources,” he said.

“We also hope there will be opportunities for university case studies involving Youi for research purposes and also for senior Youi staff to be involved in guest lecturing opportunities as well.”

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said Youi’s commitment to the Sunshine Coast was expected to inject $1.2 billion into the local economy over the next decade.

“This is about more than just creating jobs. This is about creating careers for Sunshine Coast residents,” Mayor Jamieson said.

Queensland employment is projected to increase by 308,000 persons over the five years to 2018-19. Significant gains by industry sectors are expected for:
