Imagine enjoying live music and family-friendly entertainment on the shores of Lake Kawana on a Sunday afternoon as the sun is setting.

DUSK – a free, family-friendly outdoor community event celebrating live music, art and culture will do just that on the shores of Lake Kawana at council’s VENUE 114 on Sunday, September 16 from 3pm to 7pm.

Three local artists including Andrea Kirwin and Band, award-winning world music act ‘Highlife’ and Alisha Todd will take to the VENUE 114 outdoor stage with live music. DUSK will deliver roving entertainment and face painting for the children, food trucks and the event will be fully licensed. Artist Tyler White will also project lighting on the back stage at sunset from 6pm-7pm.

DUSK is proudly presented by Community Solutions Group and VENUE 114, formerly known as Lake Kawana Community Centre.

Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said the Sunshine Coast community love outdoor events and Lake Kawana will be the perfect backdrop for the new DUSK event.

“We invite the community to bring their picnic rug and umbrella and set up for a relaxing afternoon of entertainment. It will be the perfect way to finish the weekend.

“Our professional VENUE 114 staff will support Community Solutions to deliver this family event which will become a regular on the region’s events calendar.”

Community Solutions managing director David Curd said his organisation was excited to be co-presenting DUSK with Sunshine Coast Council.

“There will be four DUSK events scheduled over the next 12 months providing local residents and visitors to the region with the opportunity to join in free, family-focussed fun with quality dining options, live music and other entertainment,” he said.

“People will be able to enjoy the beautiful and unique sunsets over Lake Kawana and if they have a spare gold coin Wishlist will be fundraising for children in need.

“This is a wonderful initiative for a community that is quickly becoming one of the most energising destinations on the Sunshine Coast.”

Parking is free and public transport is available. In the event of wet weather, DUSK will take place inside VENUE 114. Dogs on leash are welcome.

Andrea Kirwin and band

The smooth sounds of Andrea Kirwin and Band are truly a musical delight. Hailing from the Sunshine Coast, the band is made up of Andrea Kirwin on vocals, acoustic guitar and cigar box guitar, master beat maker Mitch Francis on Drums, Oj Newcomb 'The Juice' on bass and the talented Brodie Graham on electric guitar.

Andrea's honey-toned voice and heartfelt lyrics are beautifully supported by this well-seasoned crew of performers as they effortlessly cruise through the genres of roots, reggae, soul, funk, hip hop and blues creating a unique sound that is reminiscent of bands from the 60s and 70s era of music.

Each band member adds their personality to the mix, bringing a fresh energy to each show. The band's musical influences include Tracy Chapman, John Mayer, Eric Clapton and Otis Redding.

Highlife

HighLife are a Queensland Music award-winning world music act based on the Sunshine Coast. After captivating the crowds at Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival and Island Vibe Festival the band has gained a reputation as a powerful force in the live music scene. Their sets are well known for being relentlessly high energy and commanding the attention of the audience with a unique sound that is a concoction of African rhythms, psychedelic funk and improvisational fusion, described as ‘Afro Psych’.

Alisha Todd

Alisha hails from Gympie, raised on country and rock and has recently returned from a long European hiatus with lots to share. With a new profound affection for jazz fusion and the rhythms encountered in late night street ciphers and D’Angelo records, Alisha extends her bubble of happiness with everyone she plays to through her wandering melodies and old soul delivery.
