Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson will join other South East Queensland mayors in Brisbane tomorrow morning to discuss the key infrastructure, planning and economic opportunities in the region.

Cr Jamieson will be part of a panel, including all South East Queensland Mayors, at a breakfast hosted by UDIA Queensland.

He said the region’s local government leaders are working collaboratively together to achieve better outcomes for ratepayers.

“I talk about teamwork a lot – and it’s important for the Sunshine Coast to be part of the Council of Mayors team,” the mayor said.

“Although each region is different, we face many of the same challenges.

“We all need to manage growth, improve planning, strengthen economies, preserve communities and protect environments.”

Mayor Jamieson said he will use this forum to outline the importance of a strong regional economy and the need to deliver job creating projects.

“I will be telling business people that my priority is to get the Sunshine Coast economy back on track to create long-term careers for our kids,” he said.

“The Coast has a unique opportunity in the next few years to leverage some of our major projects to benefit the whole region.

“It is important that we focus our attention on the Maroochydore City Centre, the expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport and the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.”

The mayors are also expected to discuss planning reform, infrastructure charges, the SEQ Regional Plan and state planning policies.
