Discover the fascinating SS Dicky story

Join renowned storyteller Gail Robinson and celebrate the history and stories of the SS Dicky at Caloundra Regional Gallery at 4pm on January 15, 2016.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the recently launched T ime and Tide – The SS Dicky Story film captured the historic relocation of the wreck through the shared gathering of community memories and images to create a digital story about its past, present and future.

“This commemorative film was developed in partnership with the Friends of Caloundra Lighthouse and produced by James Muller featuring professional storyteller Gail Robinson,” Cr Dwyer said.

“ _Time and Tide – The SS Dicky Story_ also acknowledges the significant social, aesthetic and interpretive heritage values of this site and it is only fitting that we recognise the valuable contribution it has made to our region’s heritage.

“There is no doubt this film will increase community understanding of the connection of the historic shipwreck to the heritage of the Sunshine Coast.”

Storyteller Gail Robinson said we all knew the SS Dicky was a shipwreck but there were so many interesting details to discover about this much-loved icon.

“In my storytelling I will uncover a range of fascinating facts such as how SS Dicky had been part of the West Australian Pearling Industry and had carried ‘diggers’ to the Kimberley Goldfields and brought them back with their pockets full of gold,” she said.

“I invite the community to join me and enjoy these old stories which will intertwine with colloquial memories.”
