Sunshine Coast Council today welcomed the provision of $156,000 in funding from the Department of Communities under the Local Sport and Recreation Jobs Plan to employ a Sport and Recreation Coordinator to support up to seven sporting clubs in Noosa.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot officially accepted the funding from Minister for Sport Phil Reeves today at a ceremony at the Noosa Pirates Rugby League Clubhouse, Tewantin.

The funding includes up to $52,000 per annum for three years to support the employment costs of a full-time local Sport and Recreation Coordinator for local communities.

The new coordinator will be a valuable asset in enhancing the health and wellbeing of residents of the Sunshine Coast.

The person in the role will be responsible for servicing a cluster of about five to seven incorporated sport, recreation or community clubs and councils, at the Noosa District Sports Complex and will help to build school and club links.

The coordinator will also assist these organisations with volunteer management strategies, increasing participation opportunities and helping the organisations with planning, governance and grant opportunities.

The Local Sport and Recreation Jobs Plan funding program suite assists local community organisations, councils and community stakeholders to build the capacity of organisations so that safe, appropriate and suitable support and recreation activities are provided for all local community members.
