Smooth sailing for Cooroy Street commuters

A much smoother, safer and more enjoyable journey is just up the road for Dicky Beach and Battery Hill locals and passers-through thanks to a major reseal and rehabilitation program for Cooroy Street.

Sunshine Coast Council started the capital works program along Cooroy Street on 24 October and it is scheduled to be completed by the end of November (weather permitting).

Division 3 Councillor Keryn Jones said the major rehabilitation would revitalise the road allowing smoother travels for those en route to Currimundi Primary School, Dicky Beach Surf Club or nearby streets and suburbs.

"This busy street – which borders Dicky Beach and Battery Hill – had become significantly damaged and uneven in some areas," Cr Jones said.

"The project will see the reconstruction of Cooroy Street from Beerburrum Street to the roundabout at Coonowrin Street and will include profiling, sealing and resurfacing on both sides of the road."

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said council was taking every precaution to minimise the disruption to local residents’ properties and for motorists passing through the area.

"Detours are in place and access to the surf club and residents’ properties east of Cooroy Street has been maintained for the duration of the project," Cr Dwyer said.

"We thank the community for their patience during this time and will take every opportunity to complete this project as soon as possible.

"I am looking forward to seeing and experiencing the new and improved Cooroy Street soon."
