Skate boarders lined up.

The Maleny Skate Park located at the Maleny Showgrounds on Maleny Stanley River Road is about to be completely revamped with renewal works beginning at the start of June.

Sunshine Coast Council worked closely with the Maleny community and collaborated with local skaters on the design of the park.

Works will include removing the existing skate park elements and all associated infrastructure and constructing a new skate park.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 5 Councillor Winston Johnston said he was delighted construction was set to start on an upgrade that the community had wanted for some time.

“I know it’s been a long time coming and I thank our Maleny community for their patience while we worked with them to deliver a truly community-led skate park for everyone to enjoy,” Cr Johnston said.

“The renewed skate park design is a high quality and contemporary facility that I see becoming a place of connection for our young people and broader community.

“The skill level is suited for an intermediate level, which will enable everyone to enjoy the facility.

“Skate parks are an important and fun way of encouraging physical activity and fostering a sense of community.”

A park by skaters, for skaters

The new skate park will feature smooth concrete bowls for seamless transitions, rails and ledges for grinding and tricks, with the existing half pipe being retained and integrated with the new park.

To help make the space inviting for those watching the action, new seating will be installed, with landscaping also added.

While Council aims to keep the existing half pipe open for skaters to use during the upgrade works, there will be times during construction it will not be accessible to keep everyone safe.

Please follow safety signage on site.

Works are scheduled to be completed by October 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.

“I am looking forward to seeing our community enjoying this fantastic new facility, once it’s completed,” Cr Johnston said.

“This is a great example of how we are connecting and engaging with our communities to build a better future for everyone.”

The Queensland Government provided $250,000 to Sunshine Coast Council for the Maleny Skate Park project to enable Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.
