A little rain didn’t deter around 250 keen skating fans from attending the Sunshine Coast’s National Youth Event – CONVERGE – last Saturday, 28 March at Sunshine Beach.

With families and friends watching on 33 young skaters competed for prizes and the titles of Best Under 12’s, Boy’s Open, Girls, Street and Vert.

Not to be outdone, seven local youth bands took to the stage to entertain the crowd with their original music. The event was organised by Council’s Community Support Officer for Youth and Culture Katie Edmiston.

“This year’s event was a great success and a fantastic way for our local community to support and recognise the talents of our young people as part of National Youth Week. It was also a great opportunity for new bands to perform for a live audience,” Ms Edmiston said.

The skating competition winners were:

Under 12’s Winner – Zac Schwitter (Noosa)

Runners Up – Aaron Kelly and Roark Alberts

Boys Open Winner – Chris Moore (Sunrise Beach)

Runners Up – Tim Malmstrom and Mitch Steifler

Girls Winner – Georgie Brooder (Tewantin)

Runners Up - Teegan Ballard and Nikki Quinlan

Best Street – Jayden Goldthrope (Cooroibah)

Best Vert – Tim Malmstrom (Noosa)
