Sunshine Coast Council would like to advise that a sewage discharge has been identified at the Maleny Show Grounds as a result of a burst pipe associated with a sewage pumping station.

The leak was identified early this morning and crews were immediately despatched. The pump station was shut down and alternative transport of the sewage is being conducted via tanker. The Environmental Protection Agency and South East Queensland Water were advised of the leak.

The area is currently being cleaned and tested and the public are advised to avoid swimming and drinking the water within the Obi Obi Creek, South of the showgrounds as a precautionary measure while testing is in progress.

Signs, advising of a water quality issue, have been erected at various locations.

The potable water supply for Maleny is NOT impacted as water is drawn upstream of the spillage.
