Work on Australia’s only greenfield CBD at Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is about to start, and the search is on for a board of directors to lead the project.

The board of the new Maroochydore City Centre development company will oversee the delivery of this vibrant and contemporary city development, providing a new business, community and employment heart for Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said Maroochydore City Centre, which would be developed on the current Horton Park Golf Course site, was undoubtedly one of the region’s largest game-changing developments.

“Maroochydore City Centre will be fast tracked to become a contemporary international city – but with a character that embraces the values of the Sunshine Coast,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“We have the approved Development Scheme in place for the 53 hectare site and we are now looking to put in place a commercial board to bring the project out of the ground.

“This massive project, which will be delivered over the next 20 years, will be a major driver of a new economic, community and civic base for our region

“Maroochydore City Centre will become a thriving and vibrant city centre, complementing the existing business and commercial areas of Maroochydore.

“Over time, the new city centre will be home to entertainment, exhibition and convention facilities, community facilities and meeting spaces, parklands, walkways, recreation areas and waterways and an enhanced public transport network.

“This is one of the most exciting chapters in Sunshine Coast’s history.

“Council and this community are fortunate to be part of this project from the very start, to see it rise from the ground in the coming years.”

The Maroochydore city centre development company directors will be accountable for delivering the Maroochydore City Centre development in a way that supports Council’s economic and community objectives for the Sunshine Coast as Australia’s most sustainable region.

Mayor Jamieson said it was an exciting opportunity for highly experienced and successful board members who were accustomed to working across a range of disciplines and with a wide range of stakeholders.

“In particular, Council is looking for board members with expertise in the areas of planning, development and design, commercial investment and delivering innovative capital projects.

“An appropriate remuneration offer is available, reflective of the value of the roles and the significant experience that highly qualified board members will bring to the company.

“This would have to be one of the most exciting development opportunities available in Australia at this time and I have every confidence that we will have in place a highly talented board of directors that will deliver a truly outstanding city centre for the Sunshine Coast.”
