Don’t miss the opportunity to witness Logies Hall of Fame recipient Noni Hazlehurst in the moving theatre production, Mother, for one performance only at Sunshine Coast Council’s Lake Kawana Community Centre on Tuesday, October 25 at 7.30pm.
Last month, The Logies inducted Noni Hazlehurst into their Hall of Fame to honour a career which now spans 43 years.
Noni described the challenges and rewards within the ever-changing industry in her acceptance speech that moved viewers across the nation.
An actress and advocate for unity, Noni said she has always tried to find stories that resonated on a human, empathetic level and projects that existed to encourage people to feel and reflect.
One such project is Mother, a one-woman play by Daniel Keene and directed by Matt Scholten, where Noni stars as Christy, a homeless, aging woman, living on the outskirts of suburbia.
Becoming somewhat like a celebrity, and attracting the curiosity of locals, Christy is not shy of an audience and amuses herself with telling anyone who’ll listen the story of her life.
Beneath her story, her wild exaggerations, and fantastic tales of loves lost and struggles overcome, there are truths that haunt her, certain events that she would rather forget, but can’t.
Christy is an outrageous, irreverent character, a contradictory figure who is larger than life. Despite herself, her exaggerated stories reveal the past she desperately wants to hide. She may have been cast out of society, but she can never escape from herself.
Tickets to this new Australian play are just $48 for adults, $45 for concession and groups of eight or more, $42 for SCvip Members, and $38 for those under 26 years of age.
Noni Hazlehurst has also generously offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 15 actors wishing to hone and develop their skills to register for a one-hour drama workshop on Monday, October 24 at 3.30pm.
Noni will share her concept of the role and responsibilities of the actor, her own career and will include a question and answer session.
Cost to attend the workshop is just $20 per adult or $55 for a show and workshop bundle and $20 for young people under 25 years or $35 for a show and workshop bundle.
