Road repairs required for Duporth Ave

Sunshine Coast Council will soon begin work to repair damaged concrete road pavement on Maroochydore’s Duporth Avenue.

Division 8 Councillor Jason OPray said the repairs were scheduled to start on 20 February to ensure completion before the Easter school holidays and the opening of the refurbished Big Top.

“Council will repair the pavers on Duporth Ave between Ocean St and the roundabout entrance to the Big Top shopping complex,” Cr OPray said.

“The new pavers will be more durable and will retain the current look which adds to the character of Duporth Ave.

“We repaired one section of this road in early 2014 and monitored it to ensure this replacement material was successful – now we’re onto the second stage.

“Council is committed to maintaining the roads across our region, and these repair works are part of our $111 million capital works program for 2014-15.”

Councillor OPray said the street would be closed to northbound traffic during construction.

“This work requires traffic to be reduced to one lane, operating in a southbound direction over the seven week construction period,” Cr OPray said.

“I know the reduction to one-way traffic will cause some inconvenience, but I’m sure all will agree it will be worth it to ensure this shared pedestrian and traffic area is safe for everyone.

“I would like to say a big thank you in advance to all the residents and businesses for their patience during construction.”

Large electronic signs will be in place to direct traffic around the affected areas. Council has informed nearby residents, businesses and the Maroochydore Revitalisation Association of the northbound closure and will liaise with them if property access or parking will be affected.

Work is expected to be complete within seven weeks (weather permitting) due to the concrete and sealant curing times.
