Road rehab on track

A smoother and safer road surface is taking shape on Beerburrum Street at Dicky Beach, where Sunshine Coast Council is conducting resealing and rehabilitation works.

Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said the $1.6million project aimed to remedy the previously rough and uneven road surface between Nicklin Way and Coonowrin Street that had deteriorated due to recent summers of extreme rainfall.

“Works began on June 24 and are now substantially complete on the east-bound lane and have commenced on the west-bound lane,” he said.

“The east bound lane is closed and all through traffic with access only permitted for residents.

"The west bound lane is now closed to all traffic, and affected property owners are now receiving notification on where to park their vehicles.

“Once the works are substantially complete on the west-bound lane, both lanes will be systematically surfaced with asphalt that will provide a new smoother and safer road surface.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their terrific patience during these works, especially nearby residents.

"I understand that it’s a testing time for those who’re subject to the detours and changes to parking arrangements however the long term outcome will be a much improved road surface that will greatly benefit the community.”

The project is expected to be complete by late September.

Electronic message boards remain in place to provide advance warnings to commuters and enable alternative routes to be taken around the works.
