Rising star Montaigne to headline at local Raw Sounds youth music festival

Sydney-based avant-pop heroine Montaigne will perform a special “all ages” concert at Council’s Lake Kawana Community Centre as part of the Raw Sounds Music Festival on Saturday, October 17.

Montaigne first enlightened our senses as a Triple J Unearthed High finalist in 2012 before taking a hiatus to complete her High School Certificate.

The past year has been a momentous one for the teenager who re-acquainted herself with Australia after releasing her debut single I Am Not An End, which was Triple J’s 36th most played song of the year.

She also released her EP Life Of Montaigne to well-deserved acclaim, but it’s the live delivery of her songs that is resonating with fans and critics alike.

Montaigne has just released her new single Clip My Wings which is fast becoming a Triple J favourite.

The Raw Sounds Festival, now in its fifth year, is an all ages family friendly event which was originally created as a live music event specifically for young people 12 years to 25 years and gives local artists an opportunity to showcase their talent.

Clip My Wings is co-written, produced and mixed by Tony Buchen (The Preatures, Andy Bull) and recorded at Albert Studios, and is about the value of autonomy and standing up for what you believe in.

The single boasts a bigger sound for Montaigne and an even more opulent and dramatic melody than what we’ve heard from this vocally gifted songstress.

Montaigne explains Clip My Wings is about attempting to push back against your oppressors.

“I am resilient and have become more self-confident,” she said.

“I am less afraid to stand up for myself and my self-belief and I am expressing that through this song.”

Montaigne has established herself on the live circuit, recently supporting San Cisco, Megan Washington and electro phenomenon Japanese Wallpaper.

In April, she embarked on a sold out national headline run and also graced stages at Groovin The Moo and Sydney's Come Together Festival. Next up Montaigne will tour Clip My Wings taking her band on the road: Neil Anderson (keys), Gus Gardener (bass) and Miles Thomas (drums).

Supporting artists at the festival include local bands Fieu, Dear Willow, Indica, Taylor Payne and many more.

Advance purchase tickets are $15 each or $50 for a family or group of four and can be purchased at the Lake Kawana Community Centre box office on 5413 1400 and online at Council’s performance venue website www.scvenuesandevents.com.au. Tickets purchased at the door are $20. This is an alcohol free family-friendly event.

Lake Kawana Community Centre is located at 114 Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina and offers car parking in close proximity to the venue.
