The Noosa River Plan is back on the agenda following the re-establishment of the Community and Industry Advisory Committee—CIAC—which was originally set up to help implement the plan.

The Noosa River Plan, prepared in 2004 in consultation with the state government and the community, was developed to protect the Noosa River system.

Sunshine Coast Council Environmental Portfolio Councillor Keryn Jones said the Noosa River Plan is back on the agenda.

“CIAC met for the first time on Friday 5 March in Tewantin and is set to build on the success since the plan’s initiation six years ago,” Cr Jones said.

“Whilst there have already been significant results in relation to implementation of the plan there is still work to be done.

“The next step for the committee will be to set a list of priority actions for implementation.”

CIAC enlists broad experience and keen interest in the Noosa River which is vital in order to balance the environmental, economic, social and cultural heritage aspects concerning river use, management and rehabilitation.

The CIAC membership incorporates tourism and commercial interests, environment and landcare specialists, amateur fisherman and local residents.

CIAC will meet every six weeks.
