New sporting facilities coming for Caloundra clubs
The growing membership of the Caloundra City Soccer Club is set to have a new home to meet its increased need for facilities under a revision of the Reserve 1000 Master Plan.

Endorsed by Sunshine Coast Council today, the soccer club will relocate to council’s new sporting and community facilities site at Honeyfarm Rd, near Corbould Park Racecourse, once stage one works are complete.
The relocation will allow a new junior AFL field and a Little Athletics training space to be developed on the area formerly occupied by the soccer club within Reserve 1000 at Golden Beach.
The Reserve 1000 Master Plan 2018-33 has been revised by council officers due to on-site hydrology and ecological impacts which meant some elements of the previously endorsed plan could not proceed.
Division 2 Cr Tim Dwyer said the revision had provided some great outcomes for user groups currently based at Reserve 1000.
“It’s predicted there will be an extra 25,000 people living in the reserve’s primary catchment areas by 2026 so we need to ensure those clubs and groups based there have room to thrive and grow,” Cr Dwyer said.
“We had constraints on the Reserve 1000 site and it was time to look at the other wonderful option we now have available to us at Honeyfarm Rd following the purchase of 75 hectares of land in 2011 for sport, community and civic purposes
“Given the increased pressures placed on the Caloundra City Soccer Club by their sharp growth in membership, they need better facilities for their existing and future needs and that’s what we will be able to provide at Honeyfarm Rd.
“The provision of a senior and junior AFL field for the Caloundra Panthers at Reserve 1000 is in line with AFL Queensland’s preferred model of available field space for clubs with junior and senior activity.
“This also provides improved opportunities to schedule adequate training and games space across two ovals.
“Reducing pressure on the existing single AFL field space will also provide opportunities for increased Little Athletics membership and fewer issues when seasons cross over.
”The provision of up to three additional netball courts at the highly patronised Caloundra Indoor Stadium will also provide improved opportunities for members and supporters of the Caloundra District Netball Association.
“Facility upgrades that address future needs for rugby league and indoor bowls are also recognised within the Reserve 1000 Master Plan actions, as are resolutions for access and parking improvements.”
Master planning and development of the Honeyfarm Rd site will start in the 2018/19 financial year.
