New roundabout to reshape Forest Glen intersection

Construction of a new $2.6 million roundabout at the intersection of Mons Road and Owen Creek Road in Forest Glen, which will improve traffic flow and accommodate future traffic growth, is set to start in late February.

Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford said he looked forward to seeing the new roundabout take shape.

“After several nearby road upgrades in recent years, this roundabout is the next important road network upgrade that further improves traffic flow, helping to future-proof these roads,” Cr Hungerford said.

The upgrade will also include cycle lanes and landscaping.

“Anyone who drives these roads will appreciate what a difference this will make for motorists and cyclists and I’m very pleased to see this project getting underway,” he said.

“The road work itself, combined with the landscaping, will transform this area.

“I know construction will cause some inconvenience, but I am sure it will benefit everyone in the long run and I thank the community in advance for their patience.

“Council is committed to improving road infrastructure across the region and also to providing adequate facilities to cater for future growth and development.”

Work is expected to be complete by December 2017 (weather permitting).

Construction will be undertaken in stages to minimise disruption to road users and local businesses.

Both directions of traffic will remain open on Mons and Owen Creek roads during construction, with reduced speed limits and traffic control in place for the safety of workers and the public. Minor delays can be expected.

Areas of road verge currently being used as informal car parking areas will be inaccessible from the start of February 2017 as council prepares for construction.

Once this project is complete, all road verge areas will be landscaped and will not be accessible to vehicles for parking.

A northern leg of the roundabout will also be constructed to service future development sites.
