Bulk recycling bins for co-mingled waste are now available for large residential, commercial and industrial premises in the northern region of the Sunshine Coast from Peregian to Tewantin and Cooroy.

Council’s northern regional waste contractor TPI Cleanaway will provide bins suitable for recyclables that are normally placed into yellow-lidded wheelie bins.

”The bulk recycling bins are suitable for premises such as hotels, accommodation units, sporting venues, shops, schools, motels, industrial premises, takeaway food shops and other premises generating large volumes of recyclable material,” Council’s Environmental Health Manager (North), Wayne Schafer said.

The bins, serviced weekly, have a 1,100 litre capacity - the capacity of about 4 ½ wheelie bins - and are fitted with low noise rubber wheels and easy lift lids.

The service is suitable for premises that have on site access for a large collection vehicle to drive up to the bin.

“Some properties may need to be evaluated to ensure they are suitable for the service.

Each bin costs $998 per annum for a weekly service, although there is a 10% discount for prompt payments,” Mr Schafer said.

“The extra cost may be offset if you can reduce your waste bin service requirement and transfer the recyclables to the bulk-recycling bin.”

Applicants must be able to monitor their recyclable waste stream to ensure the bin is not contaminated with non-recyclable waste.

Property owners or their authorised agents (i.e. only authorised occupiers) can arrange the service by contacting Gary Dolton at Council’s Tewantin Office by email to [email protected] or phone him on 54495262.
