Junior sporting clubs can look forward to a new multi-use sports field, with a $2.4 million expansion of Coolum Sports Complex now underway.
Division 9 Councillor Steve Robinson said the field would cater for junior cricket and rectangular field sports such as soccer.
“This is one of several exciting projects underway in Coolum and it’s particularly exciting for our young athletes,” Cr Robinson said.
“In addition to the sports field, the new facilities include a training area, new car parking facilities, access road improvements, pathways, lighting and shade trees.
“We’ll also undertake revegetation of Stumers Creek, which the complex backs on to.
“Future stages of this project include an amenity block.
“Providing quality sporting facilities helps Council foster vibrant communities and helps achieve the goal of becoming Australia’s most sustainable region.
“Council thanks the State Government for its generous contribution of $1.1 million funding towards this important project and the nearby clubs for their patience during construction.”
The upgrade, part of Sunshine Coast Council’s Coolum Sports Complex Masterplan, is jointly funded by Council and the Queensland Government’s Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing ‘Get Playing Plus’ program.
The field is expected to be complete in December, weather permitting.
