Learn how to produce an art piece that was the toast of ancient Rome – and make a stunning sculptured tile to hang in your home – at the next Caloundra Regional Art Gallery workshop.
The gallery is teaching the ancient art form of low relief sculpture using a contemporary approach at a special workshop on Thursday 5 November from 11am to 2pm.
The introductory workshop will teach participants the basic techniques and elements of low relief sculpture, in which carving is sunk below the level of the surrounding plane surface.
Participants will use clay and plaster to create a realistic or abstract-based low relief sculptural tile that is suitable for wall hanging. Inspiration for the sculpture can come from any photographs, images or drawings brought from home to begin the design process.
Robert Natoli will run the workshop. With a 20 year background in art teaching and tutoring, Rob has designed and implemented workshops for a variety of students. He is a regular tutor at the Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Regional Art Gallery and for community groups.
The cost is $40 (or $35 for gallery volunteers/friends/concession) and includes all materials.
No previous experience in the media is required.
The workshop is limited to ten places so book early to avoid disappointment. Call 5420 8299 to book a place or for more information.
