To celebrate the launch of their own library card, young readers descended on Nambour Library today for some special games and a piece of celebratory cake.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said Council was extremely fortunate to have once again secured an illustration from bestselling author and illustrator Terry Denton’s Treehouse series for the new “kids only” library card.

“Children are going to be lining up at their favourite library door to pick up a copy of the new library card featuring Terry, Andy and one of the skating penguins which is unique and only available to members of Sunshine Coast Libraries,” Cr McKay said.

“To celebrate the occasion, we  invited our young library goers to come along and have some fun - play games, have a dance off in the disco and help us eat a special cake.

“In 2008, Terry Denton provided Sunshine Coast Libraries with the Fish graphic from his popular series Gasp! to allow us to produce our very first kids only library card which was one of the first of its kind in Australia.

“The Treehouse books have been published in Dutch, German and Portuguese and have sold nearly five million copies worldwide. More than 1.56 million copies of the Treehouse series have been sold in Australia and New Zealand alone.”
